Four New Mexico Hummingbirds
When we moved to New Mexico, we were blown away by the pottery art of the Pueblos. Stylized birds are often featured, for example the “Summer Bird” of the Kewa Pueblo. I tried to approximate the style in a way that a birder could still identify the species. The late, great Charley Harper invented the perfect way to represent hummingbird wings, and I borrowed that, too. Here are Rufous Hummingbird, Calliope Hummingbird and a pair of Black-chinned Hummingbirds.
